In astrophysics everything in the universe that we cannot see or detect directly but which exerts gravitational forces on all visible heavenly bodies is measurable. Dark matter is what it is because it does not stand out, yet without its existence we would not understand the complexity of the universe. There is in fact more dark matter than visible matter.

This definition gives me the opportunity to reflect on the absence of light in photography and its evocative, mysterious character, Not being able to see something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. On the contrary it can be even more intense. The absence of light hides not only forms and textures, it also has a powerfully evocative effect on memory.

The project is a selection of images, all taken in Seville where I live and where the absence of light is the main element. They express with a dark omnipresence, the sometimes asphixiating weight of the tradition of the city and social liturgies which come from it, the roles of type and the contradictions of a very rich collective identity which is also conformist. Sometimes In these circumstances, meeting with the light is a search for liberty.

En astrofísica, se denomina materia oscura a toda materia contenida en el universo que no podemos ver ni detectar de manera directa pero cuyos efectos gravitacionales sobre todos los cuerpos celestes visibles son medibles. La materia oscura lo es porque no brilla, pero sin su existencia, no se entendería la complejidad de la arquitectura del universo. De hecho existe más materia oscura que materia visible.

Esta definición me da la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre la ausencia de luz en la fotografía, de su carácter evocador y misterioso. Lo que no vemos no necesariamente no existe, sino al contrario, puede ser incluso más intenso. La ausencia de luz esconde no sólo formas y texturas sino que tiene una poderosa capacidad de evocación sobre nuestra memoria.

El proyecto, es una selección de imágenes, donde la ausencia de luz es protagonista, realizadas todas ellas en Sevilla, donde resido. Expresan, con la oscuridad omnipresente, el fuerte peso que tiene en la ciudad, a veces asfixiante, la tradición y las liturgias sociales que se derivan de ella, los roles de género y las contradicciones de una identidad colectiva muy compleja y rica, pero también conformista. En estas circunstancias, en ocasiones, el encuentro con la luz, es una búsqueda de libertad.
